Kelley James (b. 1970, California)

Statement

Rooted in nature yet intentionally ambiguous, my work explores immersive spaces that exist between abstraction and landscape.

Working intuitively with layered acrylic, I build each painting through a process of adding, obscuring, and revealing, allowing it to evolve over time. I embrace ambiguity, leaving room for personal interpretation rather than defining what the viewer should see.

Through color, texture, and subtle shifts in light, I aim to create paintings that encourage people to slow down, look longer, and experience something uniquely their own.

Bio

Born in 1970 in Anaheim, California, Kelley James lives and works in Denver, Colorado. She is a self-taught acrylic and mixed media artist.

Painting is the latest chapter in a lifelong creative path that has included floral design, visual merchandising, window display, and personal styling. While the mediums have changed, the desire to create has remained the same.

Her work is held in private collections throughout the United States.
